Can anyone in either Dallas or Polk County furnish me information as to identity of my great grandfather. My great grandmother, Mary Delilah Barclay, daughter of Durrett Hubbard Barclay and Lucretia Davidson, gave birth to my grandfather, David Barclay, on September 26, 1859 at St. Joseph, MO. She had been living in either Dallas or Polk County before his birth. Family history indicates just prior to the Civil War she had been dating an older man (father of my grandfather) and her family did not want her to marry him. He reportedly fought in the Civil War and never returned as far as we know. His last name may have been Caruthers (several ways to spell name). Mary Delilah later married John Breshears of Dallas County. My grandfather, David Barclay, married Louisa Jane Wollard at Buffalo, MO on April 5, 1891.

I am writing to request the assistance of a genealogy researcher in determining date and place of death regarding my paternal great- grandfather William Hays/Hayes. The information I have collected to date is as follows: 1. William Hays married Cyrenia Elizabeth Seaton on April 8, 1880 as indicated by the Dallas County records from the marriage book B, page 155. 2 The 1880 US Federal Census for Dallas Co., MO lists William Hays as 26 years old and married to Cyrenia E. Seaton, and his occupation as farmer. Further the census indicates his place of birth as Georgia and his parents place of birth as Tennessee. 3. From family recordsI understand William and Cyrenia had only two surviving children: (a) Edward Hayes's 'Record of Funeral' indicates he was born August 21, 1881 in Buffalo, MO and died March 19, 1951 in Glenwood AK. He is buried in Osawatomie, KS. (b) Myrtle E Hayes born November 18, 1888 in Buffalo. 4. The 1910 Federal Census for Miami Co., KS indicates Myrtle L. Hayes as the wife of George W. Ankrom with two sons Clarence age 4 and Arthur age 2. It also lists the birthplace of her father William Hays as Illinois. A contradiction of earlier information. 5. The 1910 Federal Census for Miami Co., KS lists Cyrenia Hayes as head of the house along with her son Edward. They resided in Osawatomie.

Who was the Catharine Montgomery who had an illigetimate daughter by Robert Fisher in 1861 in Dallas Co. Why did they not marry? When Catharine died, Robert took the child and reared her in Bollinger Co., MO. She was nearly grown before he married and had other children. Due to later events, it is believed there were extenuating circumstances that prevented a marriage to Catharine.
